Dean & Joy Guthrie were married in 1991. They are both ordained ministers with the Assemblies of God and have been in ministry for more than thirty years. Before pastoring Roots Church, they served for thirteen years as the Directors of Children’s Ministries for the Oklahoma District Council of the Assemblies of God. Prior to that ministry assignment, Dean & Joy served as children’s pastors. They have led leadership training, marriage conferences, worship teams, kids crusades, parenting classes, kids camps, neighborhood outreaches, and training sessions for all aspects of ministry. They have two adult children who were raised ministering side-by-side their parents. Together, the Guthrie Family has traveled all over Oklahoma, surrounding states, and even outside of the U.S. to spread the good news of Jesus.
Dean has an out-going personality and a heart for seeing God move in the lives of people. He was a carpenter for ten years before going into full-time ministry. He loves to sing, and he plays many instruments, including guitar, bass, and drums. When he has free time, you can always find him in his woodshop working on his next project, or you will find him searching for the next addition to his ever-growing superhero collection.
Joy works alongside Dean in all aspects of ministry. She has always been Dean’s right arm when it comes to praying in the altar, pulling off big events, or ministering to families. Joy has a passion for worship and seeing people connect with God. While activly serving on staff at Roots Church, Joy is also a 3rd grade teacher for Moore Public Schools.
D.J. & Shelly Guthrie were married in 2020. D.J. is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. He served in ministry alongside his parents as a child and teen. D.J. has been in ministry as a children’s pastor since 2017. While serving on staff at Roots Church, D.J. also works a a paraprofessional for Moore Public Schools. His wife Shelly is a Registered Nurse and photographer. Together, they serve as the Children’s Pastors of Roots Church. Their creativity and energy to minister to kids is off the charts! Their love to see kids live a victorious life in Jesus is passionate. They incorporate music, media, live characters, puppets, props, and fun into their very creative kids worship services. During their free time, they love to travel and spend time with their family and three fur babies. They are constantly plotting out their next Disney adventure.
D.J. is an avid fan of all things Star Wars, Marvel, and D.C. Shelly loves to collect enamel pins of her favorite characters and places, and she is working on her goal to visit every U.S. National Park.
Tori holds credentials with the Assemblies of God and has a passion for leading people in worship. She has been a part of many worship teams over the years, and she loves to sing and play the keyboard, guitar, and bass. Tori ministered with her family as a child and teen, and as an adult, she has focused on worship ministry. She has a heart for youth and helping people find Jesus, and she strives to use worship to lead people to Him.
Tori is a HQ Paraprofessional for Moore Public Schools. She is also a licensed cosmetologist and enjoys doing hair for family and friends. In her free time, she loves to cook, do arts & crafts, play board games, sing & make music, and spend time with family and friends.
